I got a note to stop by the Medical department, for a follow up on my visit.  Elaine asked if I wanted her to go with me and I told her that would be okay.  We went in and Mrs. Barin again wanted to keep Elaine out but we expressed that I wanted her there, and that she let Elaine sit with me the last time.  Just until Nurse Kercher came in.  Mrs. Barin gave us an eye-roll and escorted us into an exam room.

Elaine asked if I was going to be okay and I reassured her that I would be.  She held my hand and sat quietly with me.  Nurse Kercher, Leslie, came in with my chart and promptly started shooing Elaine away.  I begged to let her stay but Leslie was really against it. I cried out to Elaine and wouldn’t let go of her hand when Leslie finally relented and told Elaine to stand at my side, by my head while she removed the stitches.

I reached up under my skirt and pulled my pantyhose and panties down to my ankles.  Leslie said “they need to come all the way off.  You can’t put your feet in the stirrups if your ankles are bound together.  I stepped out of my shoes, slipped out of the undies and nylons and climbed up on the table.  Nurse Kercher had all of the tools she would need by her hand and I flinched when she first inserted the speculum to spread my lips.  Elaine held my hands while Leslie deftly removed the stitches and gave me some anti-bacterial cream and instructions.  “REMEMBER” she said, “You need to be very careful about what you put in your vagina for another month or so.  Don’t use any tampons unless you start bleeding profusely again so stick to pads for your next period.”  She looked at Elaine as if to say “Make sure she follows these directions” and asked if I had any questions.  I told her no, I didn’t but Elaine pipped up asking “Nurse Kercher, Lucy has been horribly moody and often cries for no reason.  What could be causing all of this?”  Leslie replied, “there are a lot of reasons for this but I don’t know if this is appropriate conversation since you’re not her guardian or relative.”  I spoke up, “I kind of want to know too.  I can be absolutely fine one minute and the next I’m so sad and excited all at the same time and start crying.”

Nurse Kercher must have taken sympathy on my saying “You ARE 15 and starting to go through a very emotional time because of hormones and other factors.  Crazy mood swings like this can even be caused by pregnancy.  You’re not pregnant, are you?”  I looked at her and Elaine who had turned to look at me in shock, and said “How could I be pregnant?  I just got my period?”  Leslie looked at me with a knowing expression, “You know you weren’t on your period.  You had stitches for a bad tear.”  At that point I was directed to dress and to take Elaine with me when we I was finished.  Nurse Kercher gathered my paperwork and excused herself.

When the door closed Elaine blurted out “You’re NOT pregnant, right?!”  I replied “How could I possibly be pregnant?  You know as well as I do, that we need a guy for that, right?”  She acknowledged me but didn’t seem too convinced that I wasn’t preggers.  I finished dressing and we told Mrs. Barin goodbye as we headed off to class.
